How do I remove rust stains from stainless Steel?
I try to wash stainless splash back and have some cooking accessories, which are brown spots that look like spots of rust. I managed to remove most of them with a clean stainless steel, but does anyone know any tricks?
Contrary to what many people believe, under certain conditions, the spot Rust will appear on stainless steel because of the passivation layer destruction. For http://nhml.com/resources_NHML_Rusting-Stainless.php repassivate at home: For passivation of stainless steel in the domestic conditions without the use of nitric acid bath, you need to clean the surface from dirt, oils and oxides. The best way to do this is to use oxalic acid based detergent, and non-metallic green scrubby pad. Do not use steel wool, or any metal area, even stainless steel, because that it will actually promote rust. Scour the surface thoroughly, and then rinse and dry it with a towel. Leave it alone for a week or two, and it will be re-passivation itself. You should not do this procedure several times, but it can repeated as many times as necessary.
